AMANFAYUN
DESCRIPTION: A rich cultural experience in an ancient Chinese village
SETTING: The outskirts of Hangzhou, near the UNESCO World Heritage site, West Lake
MUST DO ACTIVITIES: Explore the temple trail and the serene West Lake

Surrounded by lush forests and tea fields, Amanyfayun is a quiet, tranquil, and intimate retreat situated in a traditional Chinese village outside of Hangzhou. 42 suites and villas are located within the property, each unique in it’s own design. Stone pathways lead through the resort and down a creekside trail featuring ancient rock carvings, grottos, and temples. This five star luxury property is a wonderful way to experience true Chinese culture and escape to a completely different way of living. A big reason people come to Amanfayun is to experience Hangzhou’s picturesque West Lake, featuring historic bridges, pagodas, islands, and gardens. Private boats can be rented for a day on the lake, or for a more active day, bikes can be ridden around the lake’s perimeter. Guests are given their own personal butler who escorts them wherever they would like to go, and oversees all planning and reservations for the entire stay.

TIDBITS:

I was at the resort in July and it was extremely hot and humid. I would recommend coming during cooler months so that outdoor temperatures can be tolerated.

Do not eat at the “Vegetarian House”. The atmosphere is lovely, and the food presentations are outstanding, but the food itself is not good, at all. (and I’m a vegetarian!) I recommend eating at the Steam House.

The spa is excellent. Something that shouldn’t be missed.

Do the temple trail early in the morning to beat the crowds.
