Soaring Through the Skies Over British Columbia

Home / Adventure / Soaring Through the Skies Over British Columbia

The best thing about a floatplane is that it takes off and lands on the water allowing it access to some of the most remote and wonderful places. It flies low to the ground and the views are out of this world.  This trip was not supposed to be about the flight, but it was so beautiful that I have to share it.

My family and I had plans to visit a remote island in British Columbia called Stuart Island. The only way to get there is by floatplane, so we booked our flight from Seattle to the island with Kenmore Air. Tickets can be purchased individually for about $600 per person, or you can do what we did and purchase every seat on the plane, making it your own private flight! The plane is tiny and only seats eleven people. One passenger gets to sit in the cockpit and be co-pilot for the day. I jumped at the opportunity and enjoyed two hours of blissful views while I snapped away with my camera.

Looks like getting there was half of the fun!
