Ion Luxury Adventure Hotel, Iceland

ION LUXURY ADVENTURE HOTEL: Pingvellir National Park, Iceland
DESCRIPTION: Small, modern, secluded, and quiet. A perfect retreat for viewing the Northern Lights and exploring Pingvellir.
WHY?: The Northern Lights Bar, Silfra Restaurant, and easy access to Pingvellir.
MUST DO: Enjoy a glass of your favorite vino, while viewing the Northern Lights from inside of a warm and cozy floor to ceiling glass lounge.

Doesn’t the name of this hotel alone make you want to go there? “Luxury Adventure” Yes Please! The Ion hotel is about an hours drive outside of Iceland’s capital city, Reykjavik. It is set in the mountains near Thingvellir National Park, and is right near the popular “Golden Circle” route, making it a great spot for a temporary home base.

Ion daytime activities include:

-luxury horse riding tour
-Super Jeep Safari tour
-glacier tour
-Hot springs tour

At night time you can soak in the oversized hot tub under the Northern Lights, enjoy the Lava Spa, Dine at Ion’s Silfra Restaurant, or relax in the all glass Northern Lights Bar and watch the Arctic Aurora Borealis.

-The restaurant had the most delicious food in all of Iceland, however the service was a little slow and our order got messed up several times.
-The rooms are a bit small but well appointed
-The hotel has a car you can rent from there if you find yourself wanting to drive into the city.
-I didn’t get a chance to do this, but I was told that the snorkeling is a MUST DO at any time of year. The water is the clearest in the world and you snorkel in the Silfra fissure between two continents. How cool is that? Dry suits are worn in winter to keep warm.
-The Northern Lights appear to be green in photos, however they are more of a white-yellow color.
