I visited Peru with my daughter not long ago. We enjoyed some of the most extraordinary experiences during our trip. However, our stay at Titilaka was the one I found to be the most unique and genuinely authentic. In addition, this luxury lodge on Peru’s Lake Titicaca is not only picturesque, it is fascinating and full of one-of-a-kind excursions.

Views to Last a Lifetime
Staying at Titilaka is an experience you will never forget. Why? For starters, this intimate luxury lake lodge features a fantastic sleek design and boasts expansive views over the glassy lake Titicaca. Furthermore, the snow-capped peaks and rolling countryside shout dramatic beauty from all directions. Not to mention, you’ll never get bored. Days at Titilaka will be spent not only exploring the surrounding areas, but also indulging in total relaxation. Most likely on a comfy daybed, perched on an overwater deck, where you can soak in serene backdrops and exquisite sunsets.
Equally important is the fact that this property is extremely intimate, comprised of just 18 beautiful rooms. Every single one has a stunning lake view. At 12,500 feet, Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world. Hence, my suggestion is to be sure to drink plenty of water. All things considered, being at such a high elevation can be a shock to the system, although, it is well worth it. Note, they do have oxygen tanks on site should you need a little boost.
Explore the Local Andean Civilization
While the luxury lodge itself is truly spectacular, our favorite part of our stay was adventuring outside of the property grounds. My favorite excursion was the boat tour. We explored the Uros floating Islands and the Island of Taquile, which is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learning about the local people and how they use reed roots to create these man-made floating islands was totally fascinating. In addition, we were taught about their fishing, local trade, weaving techniques and many marital traditions.
Learning about their wedding belts, which are worn daily in place of a wedding ring, was the most intriguing thing to me. The women collect their hair, starting from birth, all the way until they are grown and ready to be wed. They use this hair to create a wedding belt for their soon to be husbands, to give to them on their wedding day. The belts have all different pictures woven within them, signifying the contract details of their marriage. You will often see belts with children, food, a house etc. It was most definitely an educational experience we will never forget.
The Adventures Await You
There are so many different excursions offered, it was hard to choose which ones to do. We enjoyed a beautiful hike through the island of Taquile, which was packed with panoramic views as far as our eyes could see. Similarly, guest can take scenic drives, bike treks, birdwatching trips, and visits to neighboring communities.
In the evenings, guests return to the beautiful grounds of the property for breathtaking sunsets and magnificent dining. The relaxing ambiance of a warm fireplace lights up the cozy seating area as people begin to wind down for the day. We spent this time playing board games and cards, which are well stocked in the living area. In short, staying at Titilaka, Peru’s most incredible luxury lake lodge, will be the perfect blend of adventure and total relaxation. Just what the doctor ordered.
